Halkyon Guild

The Guild as a Model for Higher Education

The Halkyon Guild is an online philosophy school led by Johannes Niederhauser. It is based in Europe. It covers a wide variety of thinkers. Heidegger, who Niederhausser wrote his thesis and a book on, is a key thinker. The school also focuses on deep philosophical critiques of modernity.

Niederhausser’s goal, as I wrote previously, is to revive authentic philosophical inquiry, which must “recognize the texts of the great thinkers of the past as living works that speak to us today—works that speak to our deepest concerns, that help us understand who we are as human beings and how we should live our lives.”

The online school has hosted two annual trips (with plans for more). The 2024 trip to Athens, which studied Greek philosophers, and the 2025 trip to Naples, which studied Italian thinkers
